Cover Letter
Dear Hiring Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in an elementary teaching position within Jefferson County Public Schools. As a current fourth grade teacher at Semple Elementary School and a Master of Arts in Teaching candidate at Bellarmine University in partnership with JCPS, I bring both current classroom experience and a strong foundation in research-based, standards-aligned instructional practices.
In my current role, I design and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction across content areas, with a particular emphasis on strengthening students’ writing, critical thinking, and ability to analyze and communicate ideas. I use formative assessment data to guide instruction, differentiate learning experiences, and ensure that all students—regardless of starting point—are supported in meeting grade-level expectations. I intentionally incorporate structured discussion, writing opportunities, and collaborative learning to build both academic skills and student confidence.
Previously, as a kindergarten teacher at Cane Run Elementary School, I developed strong expertise in foundational literacy and numeracy instruction. This experience continues to inform my approach in upper elementary, allowing me to identify skill gaps, scaffold effectively, and support students in building the foundational skills necessary for long-term success.
Through my work within JCPS and the Louisville Teacher Residency, I have developed a deep understanding of district priorities, including the Backpack of Success Skills and the Affirming Racial Equity Tool. I am committed to creating an inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment that values students’ identities, promotes equity, and fosters a strong sense of community. My classroom practices emphasize high expectations, relationship-building, and student-centered learning.
I am eager to continue contributing to JCPS and would welcome the opportunity to support students and school communities through intentional, equitable, and engaging instruction.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Rainbow Williams
